Quick Read: ALICIA

The thing about rewriting an old story is you get to see how your work has improved over time (you’d better), and you also see how some of your best writing can be tied up with your worst.  The things I liked about this when it appeared in ABERRANT DREAMS are the depiction of Alicia’s mindset; I think I got inside the sense of fear and curiosity.  On the other hand, the story was kind of flimsy.  This time around I rebooted the apocalyptic event we only see in bits–it’s not a Romero-via-Matheson zombie plague, but an old-style voodoo curse.

I’m thinking of using this in a novel-of-stories about an apocalyptic event, linking it with several other stories.
